Thoughts on Tip’d Launch and What’s Next

by Muhammad on October 15, 2008

Hey everybody! Wow, what a day it was yesterday. Thanks to all of you Tip’d is off to a great start. After our launch yesterday we were able to secure a substantial amount of press and exposure. Here are some notes on the launch.

  1. 5,000 visits, 15,000 page views (5 minutes and 27 seconds per user on site).
  2. 400 new user registrations.
  3. 584 articles submitted, 4405 votes received, and 368 comments made.

Furthermore, we’re working hard on squashing any remaining bugs and improving performance even further for our public launch in 3 weeks. Here are some of the improvements you can expect.

  1. More categories (we’re considering business, entrepreneurship, and taxes). Please let us know if you have more recommendations (in the comments).
  2. Stories on the front page will show not just time of submission but also time when the story was made popular.
  3. The stories on the front page will not have a redirect, i.e., clicking them will take you directly to the original site rather than the internal story page on Tip’d.
  4. We are working on providing more sorting options for the content in the upcoming queue so you can get to the content you want quickly and easily.
  5. Site-wide breadcrumbs will make sure you will have an easier time keeping track of where you are on the site.

That’s definitely a great start for a niche social news site but we have a lot more work to do and we could use your help in any of the following ways.

  1. Submit some stories, vote on submitted stories, or leave some comments.
  2. Spread the word, blog about us and tell your friends, family, and colleagues.
  3. Send us your questions, concerns, and general site feedback.

We understand the chicken and egg problem that we have. Without a substantial community, no one is going to want to participate, and without your vital participation, we can’t build the community. Therefore, we are actively pursuing relationships with publishers (both, on the social media side as well as the finance blogosphere). Furthermore, we’ve started advertising. You can see these ads on various social media related sites as well as Performancing Sites, BlogAds sites, and on Google.

Thanks to everyone that made this a successful launch and to our community for giving us a chance. We truly want to you to determine the future of this site. Tell us what you want and we’ll do our best to deliver.

Until next time, keep Tipping!

It’s a great looking site and an even better idea – enjoyed using it thoroughly yesterday, and hope to see it continue to grow.

Glad to read that community input is weighted upon here. Just curious, is there any future consideration to adding images for each respective tips?

Congrats to the launch though, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the community will evolve as Tip’d gets closer to public launch.

Nice clean site, I am sure you don’t need tips (for making the site better) from us, you are the real social networking guru, keep up the good work. Really excited to see what great features you add to tip’d.
