I think it most likely is being abused, I have also seen many good posts which I tipd just disappear...could there be people just toppling good posts to ensure their posts makes the front page?

The same thing happened to me again today. I submitted an article, and it made it to 9 tips, and then bam. it disappeared. Do you think someone could be abusing the system, and calling my articles spam?

I think one of my articles was toppled today, and I'm not sure why? The story had 15 tips, and then it just disappeared? It obviously wasn't spam, so why would it disappear? Is the system being abused do you think? I've talked with several other bloggers that had popular articles just disappear as well. Seems a bit odd.
