Rock the Tip’d Facebook App!

by Andy on February 11, 2009

I’m proud to announce that we’ve finally produced a Tip’d App that you can install to your Facebook profile. We already have a Tip’d Fan Page on Facebook, of course (129 fans and counting!), but that’s just not as sexy as an actual application! :-) The app shows the latest stories on Tip’d, and we’ve already had several people install it even before we officially announced it.

How did we make the Tip’d App for Facebook? With a lot of help from another application, the Blogfuse Facebook App Creator. Blogfuse provides a way for non-developers to develop a simple, no-frills Facebook app using nothing but their RSS feed and a few minutes of their time. It’s only $5 per month for 1 blog (and there’s a free trial), so if you’ve always wanted a Facebook app for your blog, but couldn’t afford to hire a developer to make a customized one, it’s a highly recommended option.

Anyway please take a look at our Facebook app (click ‘Add to Profile’), and if you’re a Tip’d fan go ahead and rock it on your profile!

Tip’d a Bit Buggy

by Jimmy on February 11, 2009

Hi everyone. We’ve gotten several reports of bugginess on Tip’d in the past 48 hours, so I figured I would post here to inform everyone that we’re sorry and we’re working on a fix. The main issue: submitting a new story hangs at step 2 for most users. Clicking the “Preview and Submit” button takes the story submitter to a blank white page, which is less than helpful. :)

Rest assured, we are working on a fix. We’ll post here again when all issues are resolved.

Update 2/11/09 at 11:30 AM CST: Everything appears to be fixed.

We’re Upgrading Servers!

by Andy on February 7, 2009

The bad news is, Tip’d is now popular enough that the site is very slow. (The good news is, Tip’d is now popular enough that the site is very slow.)

Anyway, we’re sorry about the recent server slowness, and we know it’s not great for user experience. So tonight, we’re happy to announce that we’re moving to a much faster web server!

Please accept our apologies for any downtime or bugs you may experience, everything should be running smoothly (and much faster!) by tomorrow afternoon.

50,000 Tips and Counting!

by Jimmy on January 28, 2009

Tip’d reached a big milestone earlier today, when it hit the 50,000-tip mark. (Hint: Many of our key metrics are publicly available in the footer of the main site, under “Stat-O-Matic”.) This comes only a day before the four-month anniversary of the Alpha version announcement and a little more than two months after turning 1.0. Nowadays, we’re getting over 500 tips per day, so it shouldn’t be too long before we hit the 100K milestone.

And more big milestones are on the horizon. We should hit 4,000 registered members any day now. (Fingers crossed for hitting this before we turn the calendar page to February.) Also, we have a really cool inviter tool in the works, which we hope to turn loose in early February. This inviter tool will allow members to import contacts from e-mail and social networking services so they can invite their contacts to join Tip’d.

Not too long ago, your computerized money management options were basically TurboTax, Quicken, or Excel. (Henry Ford’s old saying “you can have any color car you want, as long as it’s black” comes to mind.) But no longer! Thanks to Web 2.0 and the emergence of “mashups” that combine multiple sources of information into useful tools, you can now choose from many different applications and services that let you manage your money in ways you never even knew were possible. Here are 25 of the coolest and most useful that we could find. [click to continue…]
